TheSchoolofEcologyand Environment was founded in November, 2019. The mission of School of Ecology and Environment is training a large number of excellence-pursuing and future-leading scientific elites and talented leaders on ecological and environmental governance to meet not only the national strategic goal of ecological civilization but also the global goals of sustainable development and the construction of a community with a shared future for humankind.

On one hand, theschoolfocuses on the fundamental research directions such as the origin and the evolution of life, the regulatory mechanism underlying diverse biological processes, green biomanufacturing, and the remediation of environmental contamination, and continues to lead the forward-looking and original scientific research production. On the other hand, the school also serves as a think tank byundertaking applied research, public policy and strategy study on the ecological and environmental protection and the sustainable development ofQinling Mountains. The school currently has four secondary disciplines: animal ecology, plant ecology, ecosystem ecology and restoration ecology.

In 2018, the school was granted a Master's degree program in ecology. In 2021, it implemented "LifeScience and Ecology Experimental Class" for undergraduates, built a "3+1+N" Bachelor-Master-Doctorate training system, and formulated complete programs for all these training phases. Through the endeavor and development in recent years, the school has accumulated rich experience in undergraduates and graduates training, and has already trained a group of top-notch talents with solid professional competence and strong innovation ability.

Theschoolhas 24 full-timefaculty members, including 10 professors and 12 associate professors. Amongthem,2 professorsare “national-level talents”,5are “national-level young talents”,and 7are supported byvarious talent programsofShaanxi province.Moreover, there are 21 postdocsand2adjunctprofessors, includingonewith “national-level talents”.

The school promotes highly international working environment.More than 70% of the full-time faculty members have overseaseducational or professionalexperiencesand haveclosecollaborationswith prestigious institutions in the United States, Europe, and Oceaniaoverscientificresearch and studenttraining programs. The school is committed to open collaboration, increasing its international influenceand visibility, and strengthening communication between research teams and leading international universities and institutions. For example, inthe research on biodiversitygenomics,closecollaborationswith the University of Copenhagen in Denmark, the Museum of Nature in Berlin, Germany, and the University of California, Davis in the United Stateshave been established;the researchworkonmacroecology andGameTheoryhas been carried out through productivecollaborationswith laboratories at the University of Pennsylvania in the United States, Kyushu University in Japan and Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory;inthe research onenvironmentalbehavior of contaminants andpollution control, collaboration partners fromthe Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne(EPFL), the Nanyang Technological University, the University of Cincinnati, and the University of Queensland in Australiahave been involved. Theschoolkeeps working onpromotinginternational exchangeforboth its faculty membersand students. At present,2faculty membersand 3graduate studentshave been sentabroadfor academicexchange orjoint training through national funding,and4 foreignpost-doctors have been recruited.
